No. 22 Wayland Baptist tops Stars 3-2

OCU gives up two second-half goals in Tuesday's loss

PLAINVIEW, Texas – Two second-half goals lifted nationally-ranked Wayland Baptist (Texas) to a 3-2 victory over Oklahoma City University on Tuesday night at Hilliard Field.
OCU dropped to 9-3 on the season, 2-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference men's soccer, while Wayland Baptist, ranked 22nd in the NAIA, jumped to 10-1-1, 4-0-1 in the SAC.
WBU got on the board first with a goal five minutes into the match, but the Stars had an answer in the 28th minute. A long throw from the right side of the field was gathered by Aboubakr Diallo, who assisted Fabian Henningsen's equalizing goal. Henningsen has now scored a goal in two of the last three matches for OCU.
The Stars took the lead late in the first half after a free kick by Alex Buckley, a junior from Cheshire, England, sailed past the Wayland Baptist keeper. Oklahoma City held a 2-1 lead at the break but was unable to generate much offense in the second half.
Wayland Baptist got a goal from Raheem Fleming in the 54th minute to once again tie the game. Then in the 89th minute, WBU scored off a free kick from about 20 yards out to lock up the win.
The Stars fired nine total shots on Tuesday, three on goal. Wayland Baptist had 21 total shots, nine on goal. Senior keeper Vladimir Kalajdzic totaled six saves in the loss.
OCU plays next at 7 p.m. Thursday against St. Gregory's at Stars Field.
