PLAINVIEW, Texas – The Oklahoma City University men's basketball team dropped a 74-64 decision to Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Monday at the Hutcherson Center.
Tyler Alderman recorded his second straight double-double in the loss. Oklahoma City, ranked fifth in the NAIA, dropped to 13-3, 4-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, while Wayland Baptist moved to 12-6, 4-3 SAC.
The game was supposed to be played Saturday, but was moved to Monday because of bad weather.
Alderman, a senior from Fishers, Ind., led the Stars with 21 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots.
"The lone bright spot was the play of Tyler Alderman in this game," Stars head coach Vinay Patel said. "Hopefully he can keep up this level of play, and a few other guys can show up to help him."
Up 31-28 with 2:19 to go in the first half, Wayland went on a 14-5 run to end the first half and start the second. The Stars failed to cut the lead to under five after that.
Maurice Redmond and Russell Harrison both had 14 points for the Pioneers. Redmond added four rebounds and an assist, while Harrison grabbed five rebounds, dished out two assists and blocked one shot.
Lou Dunbar, a junior from Seabrook, Texas, provided OCU with 14 points and three rebounds. He shot 4-for-10 from beyond the arc.
As a team, Oklahoma City was outrebounded 45-40 and shot 35.0 percent from the floor, while Wayland shot 39.0 percent.
"You learn a lot about your team on the road," Patel said. "We had several guys who didn't do their parts to help us, and that is on me. We continue to get outrebounded in league play, and that makes it very hard to win consistently."
Xavier Smith, a senior from Richardson, Texas, was the only other Star who scored in double figures with 13 points to go along with nine rebounds.
OCU's next contest will be 8 p.m. Thursday against St. Gregory's at Abe Lemons Arena.
