Stars trample Central Baptist 4-0

Mendoza notches winning goal for OCU

CONWAY, Ark. – Oklahoma City University blanked Central Baptist (Ark.) 4-0 on Monday at Centennial Soccer Park.
Vanessa Mendoza, Britani Tripp, Keeley Brewer and Shaye Kerlin supplied the Stars with goals in OCU's first actual match of the season. Oklahoma City improved to 2-0 in women's soccer while also getting a forfeit from Lyon (Ark.) over the weekend.
Mendoza, a senior from Garland, Texas, gave OCU its first goal of the season in the seventh minute. Tripp, a senior from Edmond, Okla., scored off Victoria Little's assist in the 40th minute.
Brewer, a junior from Corinth, Texas, tallied a goal in the 42nd minute for a 3-0 Stars advantage. Kerlin, a freshman from Keller, Texas, pocketed her first collegiate goal in the 49th minute.
Oklahoma City piled up 29 shots to Central Baptist's 1. The Stars had 14 shots on goal.
Kirsten Thomas racked up her ninth career shutout. Thomas, a sophomore from Keller, Texas, did not need to post a save even as OCU kept Central Baptist scoreless.
Lyon handed OCU a forfeit win after failing to field a complete team due to injuries.
The Stars face Wiley (Texas) at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stars Field.
