Stars roll to 14-0 rout of Bacone

Ricks provides OCU with record six goals

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sara Ricks broke Oklahoma City University's single-contest record with six goals in a 14-0 wipeout of Bacone on Tuesday at Stars Field.
Vanessa Mendoza and Britani Tripp each added hat tricks, while Victoria Little and Laci Shipley added goals for the Stars. Oklahoma City improved to 3-5, 1-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference women's soccer.
Ricks, a sophomore from Keller, Texas, surpassed OCU's previous mark of five. Amanda Jones set the record with five against the University of Ozarks (Ark.) on Sept. 3, 2004 in Clarksville, Ark. The Stars' Caroline Dixon also tallied five goals against Mid-America Christian on Sept. 30, 2008 at Stars Field. Ricks had five goals last year as a freshman.
Ricks struck for the Stars' first two goals, both in the 17th minute. Ricks added OCU's fourth, seventh, eighth and 10th goals. Kayla McKenna provided the assist as Ricks gave the Stars a 10-0 advantage in the 42nd minute. Brianna Demuth fed Ricks on her goal in the 36th minute, while Tripp set up Ricks for her goal in the 37th minute.
Shipley, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., and Tripp, a senior from Edmond, Okla., each recorded two assists. Ricks assisted Tripp on her goal as the Stars went up 6-0 in the 32nd minute. Kalen Castor and Shaye Kerlin picked up assists.
OCU fell short of the program record of 15 goals against Oklahoma Wesleyan on Sept. 17, 1994. The Stars piled up 49 shots, 29 on goal as Bacone mustered five shots, three on goal.
Kristina Patterson and Kirsten Thomas teamed on the shutout, which was OCU's second of the year. Patterson, a freshman from Rockwall, Texas, notched two saves, and Thomas, a sophomore from Keller, Texas, posted one save.
The Stars travel to Mid-America Christian for a 2 p.m. contest Saturday in Oklahoma City.
