Stars throttle Bacone 7-4, 20-3

OCU scores 20 runs for second time this year

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University dismantled Bacone 7-4, 20-3 on Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars pounded seven home runs on the day as Landon Coon hammered two homers, and Jared Baker homered twice in the second game. OCU, ranked 12th in NAIA baseball, moved to 31-12, 12-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OCU reached 20 runs for the second time this year. The Stars piled up 15 or more hits for the 11th time this season.
Coon and J.J. Bissell nailed homers for the Stars in the first game. Bissell's two-run blast over the center-field wall tied the game 2-2 in the second inning.
OCU added four runs in the third. Joe Lytle gave the Stars the lead on an RBI base hit to right field. Baker knocked in two runs on a single to right, and Garrett Foster nailed a run-scoring single to left.
Coon smacked a solo homer to right to give OCU a fourth-inning 7-2 advantage. Coon, a senior from Dale, Okla., finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI.
Mark Simon earned the victory, moving to 5-3 on the year. Simon, a junior right-hander from Houston, struck out seven in 5.2 innings. Carlos Chavez, a senior righty from Albuquerque, N.M., posted his first save for OCU. Chavez worked the final 1.1 innings.
Baker, a junior from Edmond, Okla., went 2-for-3, scored twice, doubled and drove in two runs, while Foster, a sophomore from Ardmore, Okla., was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for OCU. Lytle, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
In the second game, the Stars erased a 3-0 first-inning deficit. Skyler Bean socked a solo homer to left to tie the game 3-3 in the second. Coon crushed a three-run shot over the left-center field wall to give the Stars the lead.
In the third, Dylan Delso and Baker hit back-to-back homers. Delso had a three-run shot to left, then Baker followed with a solo blast to left. Baker added a two-run blast to right in the sixth.
Baker had a 4-for-4 performance with three runs scored and four RBIs, and Delso, a senior from Broken Arrow, Okla., went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and five runs driven in for the Stars. Joe Haddox, a senior from Moore, Okla., went 3-for-5, scored three times and drove in two runs, while Lytle went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Hunter Marcum, a senior from Purcell, Okla., 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, and Coon drove in three runs.
Chance Weinstein, a junior right-hander from Plano, Texas, allowed one hit in three innings to get the win, his first as a Star.
Oklahoma City meets Texas Wesleyan at 3 p.m. Friday at the Ballpark in Grand Prairie in Grand Prairie, Texas.
