Stars blank Southwestern Christian in twin bill

OCU sweeps Eagles in four-game regular-season series

OKLAHOMA CITY – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University easily dispatched of Southwestern Christian 8-0 and 8-0 in Friday's doubleheader at Ann Lacy Stadium.
OCU starter Abby Meador held the Eagles to one hit in game one with eight strikeouts, while game two's starter Leslie Miller yielded three hits and fanned eight SCU batters. The Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA softball, outscored the Eagles 36-3 in their four-game regular-season series sweep of Southwestern Christian. Oklahoma City improved to 44-1, 15-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OCU's Stephanie Koishor hit a three-run homer that soared over the scoreboard in left field to give the Stars an early 3-0 lead in game one. The home run was Koishor's sixth of the season.
The Stars added a run in the third on a Kyndra Holasek RBI double to the left-center field gap that scored Kali Pugh who reached on a leadoff triple.
In the fifth inning, Jaci Smith hit a leadoff single up the middle and proceeded to steal all three bases to score. Smith stole second during Miller's at-bat and then took third on ball four to Miller. Amanda Ingram, pinch running for Miller, and Smith completed a double steal as Smith scored on the catcher's throw to second. In the following at-bat, Laci Joyner plated Ingram with a single to center field to make it a 6-0 Stars lead.
In the next inning, Smith stroked a two-run home run over the right field fence to put the game away at 8-0.
Meador improved to 18-0 on her six scoreless innings, while Smith finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, three steals and two runs. Smith is a perfect 9-for-9 in stolen bases this season.
In game two, Oklahoma City broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Smith after the Stars loaded the bases on three consecutive bunt singles by Shelbi Legg, Kayley Humann, and Kali Pugh.
OCU's Madison Ellis hit a RBI single up the middle to plate Miller in the fourth to make it a 2-0 Stars advantage.
The Stars exploded for six runs in the fifth inning on a two-run single by Legg, RBI singles from Pugh and Joyner, and run-scoring groundouts by Georgia Wall and Ellis.
Miller pitched five scoreless innings and moved to 13-1 inside the circle.
Pugh went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Legg finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs.
The Stars continue their regular-season series against No. 3 St. Gregory's in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
