Top-ranked Stars crush Oklahoma Wesleyan 14-1, 6-0

OCU takes over No. 1 ranking in NAIA softball

OKLAHOMA CITY – Newly minted No. 1 Oklahoma City University trampled Oklahoma Wesleyan 14-1, 6-0 on Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
OCU (40-1) took over the top spot in the NAIA softball rankings for the first time this season. Kali Pugh crushed a three-run home run in the first contest, and Kyndra Holasek produced four hits and three RBIs to key the Stars in the second game.
Holasek drove in OCU's first runs of the day on a two-run base hit in the first inning. The Stars built a 4-0 first-inning advantage after Georgia Wall and Madison Ellis added RBI singles.
OCU widened its lead to 9-1 in the third. Ellis doubled in a run, then scored on an error. Pugh pounded a three-run shot below the scoreboard in left field with Sha Ingram and Shelbi Legg on base.
In the fourth, Legg knocked in a run with a single to left. Jaci Smith ripped a three-run triple to right field, while Holasek closed out the scoring with an RBI base hit past the middle of the infield.
Holasek, a senior from Mustang, Okla., finished 3-for-4, scored a run and drove in three runs, while Pugh, a junior from Vista, Calif., doubled, scored three times and knocked in three runs in a 2-for-2 performance for the Stars.
Smith, a freshman from Godley, Texas, went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs, and Ellis, a junior from Yukon, Okla., was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two runs driven in. Legg, a senior from Mustang, Okla., went 2-for-3, scored twice and knocked in a run for OCU.
Leslie Miller held Oklahoma Wesleyan without a hit until Katelyn Cook's single with one out in the fourth. Miller, a senior from Blanchard, Okla., struck out seven, walked two and allowed an unearned run in five innings. Miller moved to 12-1.
In the second game, Holasek drove in the first three runs with doubles in the first and second innings.
In the fourth, Pugh and Kayley Humann belted back-to-back doubles to score a run for the Stars. Miller nailed a double past the Oklahoma Wesleyan third baseman to bring in Holasek from second base. Ellis brought in OCU's sixth run by smacking a double to right.
Holasek had a 4-for-4 game with three doubles and a run scored, and Pugh went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Samantha Stallbaumer went 2-for-3 and scored a run.
Abby Meador improved to 16-0 by shutting out Oklahoma Wesleyan on one hit and three walks in five innings. Meador, a sophomore from Midwest City, Okla., fanned 10, including striking out the side in the second. Britney Howard's double leading off the fifth broke up Meador's no-hit bid. Wall, a freshman from Marlow, Okla., had two strikeouts in the final two innings to close out the whitewash.
