OCU tops Houston-Victoria 3-1, 6-1

Stars improve to 9-1 against ranked teams in 2016

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Oklahoma City University prevailed over Houston-Victoria 3-1, 6-1 on Saturday at Oran Good Park in a showdown of top 25-ranked NAIA softball teams.
Kali Pugh hit home runs in both games of the doubleheader against 22nd-ranked Houston Victoria. Second-ranked Oklahoma City moved to 38-1 on the year.
In the first game, Pugh went deep with a 3-2 pitch with one out in the third inning.
The Stars tacked on two runs in the seventh. Madison Ellis and Shelbi Legg scored on pitcher Michelle Revels' wild throw.
Georgia Wall held Houston-Victoria to an unearned run on four hits while striking out seven in seven innings. Wall, a freshman from Marlow, Okla., improved to 12-0 while notching her eighth complete game this season.
Revels and Haley Beam (10-2) limited OCU to a season-low three hits. Kyndra Holasek had a base hit to center field in the first, and Jaci Smith added an infield single in the fifth.
Pugh smacked a two-run homer for the winning runs in the eighth inning of the second game. The Stars scored five runs in the eighth as Stephanie Koishor pounded a pinch-hit three-run homer.
Pugh, a junior from Vista, Calif., doubled to center in the fifth to bring in the Stars' first run of the game. Pugh went 2-for-4 with three runs driven in.
Samantha Stallbaumer, a freshman from Haven, Kan., was 2-for-3, and Holasek, a senior from Mustang, Okla., went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Abby Meador carried a no-hitter into the seventh when Aubri Hockenberry homered to tie the score leading off the inning. Meador (15-0) struck out 16 while holding Houston-Victoria to one hit and a walk in eight innings.
Meador, a sophomore from Midwest City, Okla., worked out of a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the first. Meador struck out the side in the fifth and the sixth and retired 12 in a row from the first to the fifth.
Oklahoma City takes on Oklahoma Wesleyan in a 2 p.m. twin bill Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
