Stars complete sweep of SAGU

OCU starts Sooner Athletic Conference play with three-game sweep

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Oklahoma City University dominated Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) 8-0 and 15-3 to complete a three-game sweep in its first Sooner Athletic Conference series of the season on Saturday at the Waxahachie Sports Complex.
The Stars, ranked fifth in NAIA baseball, improved to 14-7 on the season and 3-0 in SAC play. Jared Baker and Landon Coon each collected five hits on the day to spearhead the Stars' victories.
In the first game, the Stars jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the third inning. With the bases loaded, Coon stroked a two-run double to right-center field. Dylan Delso followed with a RBI groundout, while Cory Linn doubled to score Coon.
OCU starter Kenny Roder received the win and struck out six batters, while allowing five hits and a walk in 6.1 innings of work. Holden Lyons had two strikeouts in a scoreless inning of relief.
Oklahoma City added four runs in the top of the seventh to stretch its lead to 8-0. Joe Lytle and Delso notched RBI singles, while J.J. Bissell hit a two-run single with the bases loaded.
Coon went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, while Bissell and Delso each went 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
In the second game, OCU wasted no time getting the lead as Delso hit a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning.
The Stars pushed across five runs in the third inning on five singles to stretch the OCU lead to 8-1.
Oklahoma City's offensive onslaught continued in the fourth inning to a tone of four runs. Bissell notched an RBI single followed by a bases loaded walk by Dilon Argo and a balk by SAGU's Mark Martinez that plated an OCU runner. Lytle hit an RBI groundout that made it a 12-1 Stars lead.
Linn powered a home run over the leftfield wall in the fifth inning to make it 13-2.
OCU added two more runs in the sixth inning when Argo doubled to score Hunter Marcum and scored on a passed ball two batters later.
OCU's Ricky Spain picked up the win after relieving starter Matt Young, who pitched 4.0 innings, striking out six batters.
Argo, Baker and Coon each nabbed three hits, while the Stars totaled 19 hits in the game. Delso went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a run. Linn finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Lytle and Marcum also each recorded two hit games.
The Stars are back in action against East Central at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Ada, Okla.
