Stars clobber SAGU in conference opener

OCU opens Sooner Athletic Conference play with a win

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Oklahoma City University started off Sooner Athletic Conference play with a 13-3 drubbing of Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Friday at the Waxahachie Sports Complex.
OCU's Joe Lytle and Landon Coon each notched three hits and two RBIs, while Mark Simon went 6.1 innings with 10 strikeouts to register the win. OCU improved to 12-7 on the season and 1-0 in the SAC.
The Stars took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Cory Linn hit a bases loaded triple to right-center field.
In the top of the second inning, the first three OCU batters reached base, which chased SAGU starter Jake Clary out of the game. After the change, Lytle hit a two-run double to right-center field. In the next at-bat, Coon scored Dilon Argo on a sacrifice fly to put OCU up 6-0.
The Lions scored two runs in the fourth inning on a single and an error.
OCU added a run on a Dilon Argo double in the sixth inning before piling it on in the seventh and eighth innings with four and two runs scored, respectively.
Coon roped a solo home run to lead off the seventh inning. Linn followed with a run scoring sacrifice fly. Garrett Foster recorded a RBI single and Hunter Marcum tripled in a run.
In the eighth inning, Coon hit a RBI sacrifice fly and Jared Baker smacked a solo home run to stretch the Stars' lead to 13-2.
Argo, Baker and Marcum nabbed two hits apiece, while Foster went 1-for-2 with two walks, three runs and a RBI.
Simon moved to 3-2 on the season and Clary dropped to 0-3.
The Stars play SAGU in a doubleheader starting at Noon on Saturday at the Waxahachie Sports Complex.
