OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University handed Texas Wesleyan its first two Sooner Athletic Conference losses of the season 6-1 and 8-0 in Thursday night's doubleheader at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Georgia Wall, a freshman from Marlow, Okla., pitched 7.1 scoreless innings collectively in the doubleheader, while collecting 12 strikeouts and registering both the wins to improve to 9-0 on the season. The Stars, ranked second in NAIA softball, improved to 32-1 overall and 7-1 in SAC play.
In game one, the Lady Rams scored first as they put across one run in the top of the first inning on a RBI single by Bailey Terry.
Oklahoma City plated three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead at 3-1. Bailey Whitmore's fielder's choice scored Kali Pugh, while Kendra Holasek brought in Kayley Humann on a RBI double and Laci Joyner fouled out to deep left field which scored Whitmore.
OCU's Madison Ellis led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a triple and scored two batters later on a Pugh single to left-center field. Humann then doubled to deep right-center to plate Pugh and stretch the Stars' lead to 5-1.
The Stars added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Ellis doubled-in Holasek, who had reached on a leadoff double.
OCU's Wall relieved starter Leslie Miller in the third inning and pitched the final 4.1 innings with nine strikeouts and no hits.
Pugh finished 4-for-4 with two runs and a RBI, while Ellis went 3-for-3 with a RBI and a run.
The Stars grabbed the lead first in the second game on an Ellis RBI triple in the bottom of the second inning. Joyner reached on a hit-by-pitch, stole second, then scored on Ellis' second triple of the day.
OCU added two runs in the third inning on a Whitmore single and a Holasek single compounded with a Lady Rams error.
Oklahoma City stretched its lead to a tone of 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Jaci Smith triple, a Pugh fielder's choice and Whitmore's second RBI single of the game.
The Stars' last two runs came on a two-run home run by Smith in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it an 8-0 OCU lead.
OCU's Abby Meador pitched two innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts, while OCU starter Wall pitched three innings on no hits and three strikeouts.
Ellis, Smith and Whitmore each notched two-hit games. Smith drove in three runs and scored twice, while Whitmore had two RBIs and Ellis recorded a RBI and a run.
The Stars continue conference play in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. on March 28 against Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) in Waxahachie, Texas.
