OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University earned its second regular-season conference series win of the season as the Stars defeated Southwestern Christian 7-4 on Saturday at Dolese Park.
Cory Linn paced the Stars offensively by going 2-for-4 with four RBIs, including his fifth home run of the season. Oklahoma City, ranked 15th in NAIA baseball, improved to 21-9 and 5-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Stars' starter Ricky Parra got the decision to move to 3-1 on six innings pitched and four strikeouts.
OCU took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-run single by Linn.
The Stars and the Eagles traded RBI singles in the fifth.
In the top of the seventh inning, OCU's Jared Baker hit a RBI double to plate Landon Coon, followed by Linn's home run that stretched the Stars' lead to 6-1.
Southwestern Christian added two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on a throwing error and a RBI double to cut the OCU lead to 6-3.
The Stars notched an insurance run to make it 7-3 in the top of the ninth inning on a J.J. Bissell walk with the bases loaded.
The Eagles managed to plate a run on an error in the bottom of the ninth, but OCU reliever Holden Lyons limited the damage and earned the three-inning save.
Southwestern Christian starter Thomas Solowynsky dropped to 6-1 on seven innings pitched and two strikeouts. The Eagles move to 20-6 on the season and 5-4 in the SAC.
Coon went 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs and a RBI, while Baker finished 2-for-3 with a walk, RBI and a run.
The Stars face Arlington Baptist (Texas) in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Monday at Jim Wade Stadium.
