OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University lost its first Sooner Athletic Conference game of the season to Southwestern Christian 7-4 on Friday night at Jim Wade Stadium.
OCU's Jared Baker smacked a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to cut the Eagles' lead to 7-4 but that was the closest the Stars got. Oklahoma City, ranked 15th in NAIA baseball, moved to 20-9 on the season and 4-1 in conference play.
Southwestern Christian set the tone by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning on two RBI singles and an error.
SCU added two runs in the top of the third inning on an error and a run-scoring groundout.
The Stars' Dilon Argo put across the first OCU run on a groundout, which scored Garrett Foster who had reached on a leadoff single.
Baker singled-in Joe Lytle to cut it to a 5-2 SCU lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Eagles added two insurance runs in the top of the eighth inning on a two-run RBI single.
SCU's starter Kyle Vail pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts and improved to 3-2.
The Stars' starter Mark Simon picked up the loss on six innings pitched to move to 3-3 on the season.
Baker finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, one run and his fifth home run of the season. OCU's J.J. Bissell went 3-for-4, while Foster notched a two-hit game.
Oklahoma City and Southwestern Christian finish its three-game set at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dolese Park in Oklahoma City.
