MidAmerica Nazarene ousts Stars 87-82 in OT

OCU falls to 47-15 in NAIA Tournament play

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) outlasted Oklahoma City University 87-82 in overtime Thursday night in the NAIA Division I men's basketball tournament at Municipal Auditorium.
Terence Bonhomme drained three free throws with six tenths of a second left in regulation to force overtime for Oklahoma City. No. 14-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene (26-8) led throughout overtime to oust the 24th-ranked Stars (15-11).
In the extra period, Nick Syrie stole the ball and dropped in a fastbreak lay-in with a minute left. Syrie added a free throw with 33 seconds left to put MidAmerica Nazarene in front 85-78.
Jonathan Reed slithered into the paint for a pair of layups, the latter of which came with 21 seconds to go and cut OCU's deficit to 85-82. Dorion Gigger swiped Syrie's inbounds pass, but Syrie rebounded Gigger's miss. Syrie drew a foul and added free throws with 13 seconds showing.
Lou Dunbar's foul shots tied the game 76-76 for the Stars with 3:37 remaining. OCU trailed 80-78 after Evan White's jumper with 1:35 left.
At the end of regulation, Jonas Page hit free throws to put MidAmerica Nazarene up 72-69 with 12 seconds left. Bonhomme drew contact from Gabriel Jordan on a 3-point attempt with 0.6 seconds to go.
OCU trailed 70-64 after Justin Randall's basket with 55 seconds left. Bonhomme sank a free throw, then White hit foul shots with 42 seconds to go. Reed drove to the basket for a lay-in to slice the Stars' deficit to 70-69 with 12.5 seconds remaining.
The Stars built a 55-48 advantage with 8:56 showing on Jamil Donovan's transition jumper. Bonhomme drilled a trey for a 58-51 OCU lead at the 7:22 mark.
MidAmerica Nazarene climbed into the lead 64-62 when Justin Jamison scored with 4:03 left.
Noel Allen, a senior from Guttenberg, N.J., sparked Oklahoma City with 18 points, eight rebounds and two assists, while Reed, a sophomore from Powder Springs, Ga., posted 14 points and three assists.
Gigger, a junior from Oklahoma City, notched his ninth double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds, three blocked shots and three steals for OCU. The Stars' Brandon Patten rejected four shots.
MidAmerica Nazarene forged a 29-18 advantage in bench points.
