Stars stomp Bellevue 9-1

OCU continues unbeaten start with fourth win over rated foe this year

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma City University crushed Bellevue (Neb.) 9-1 on Saturday at the Fayetteville Complex in the Evangel-Fayetteville Classic in a battle of top 25-ranked NAIA softball teams.
OCU trampled Midland (Neb.) 10-2 to complete the weekend 5-0 in the Evangel-Fayetteville Classic. The sixth-ranked Stars ran their record to 18-0, 4-0 against ranked competition in 2016.
The Stars overcame 22nd-ranked Bellevue's early 1-0 lead. Stephanie Koisher tied the game 1-1 when she scored on Kali Pugh's ground ball to the shortstop in the third inning. Bailey Whitmore followed by hammering a grand slam.
Jaci Smith added a two-run blast in the fourth.
Whitmore, a freshman from Oklahoma City, went 2-for-4. Kyndra Holasek, a senior from Mustang, Okla., was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, while Samantha Stallbaumer, a freshman from Haven, Kan., went 2-for-4 and scored a run for the Stars.
Miller improved to 7-0 after striking out seven in five innings. Miller, a senior from Blanchard, Okla., allowed a run on two hits and three walks. Georgia Wall worked the final inning.
Against Midland, Pugh pounded a pair of two-run homers. Whitmore and Laci Joyner tacked on run-scoring doubles.
Pugh, a junior from Vista, Calif., had a 3-for-4 performance, scoring two runs and driving in four. Joyner, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs, and Madison Ellis, a junior from Yukon, Okla., went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Abby Meador notched 11 strikeouts while permitting two runs on four hits in five innings. Meador, a sophomore from Midwest City, Okla., moved to 7-0. Wall, a freshman from Marlow, Okla., worked two innings with three strikeouts.
The Stars face 13th-ranked USAO in a 5 p.m. twin bill Tuesday in Chickasha, Okla.
