FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma City University collected two victories over ranked foes among three wins Friday at the Fayetteville Softball Complex in the Evangel-Fayetteville Classic.
The sixth-ranked Stars (16-0) blasted 23rd-ranked Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) 11-2 and 22nd-ranked Bellevue (Neb.) 3-0 before Georgia Wall tossed a no-hitter in an 8-0 rout of Central Baptist (Ark.).
Against Lindenwood-Belleville, Jaci Smith had a two-run double and an RBI single to power OCU. Kali Pugh added a solo home run.
Pugh's homer touched off a four-run seventh inning for the Stars. Smith's two-run double put OCU up 5-1 in the fourth.
Smith, a freshman from Godley, Texas, went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three runs driven in, while Pugh, a junior from Vista, Calif., was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Leslie Miller went 3-for-3 with a double, and Kyndra Holasek was 3-for-5 with a two-run double for OCU.
Miller, a senior from Blanchard, Okla., held Lindenwood-Belleville to two runs on two hits. She struck out nine in a seven-inning complete game. Miller improved to 6-0.
Against Bellevue, Madison Ellis nailed a homer, while Holasek smacked an RBI double in the seventh.
Samantha Stallbaumer reached home plate from third base on an error in the fourth.
Abby Meador, a sophomore from Midwest City, Okla., blanked Bellevue on two hits and four walks. Meador (6-0) fanned 14 in seven innings.
Wall, a freshman from Marlow, Okla., walked two and struck out four in five innings against Central Baptist.
Pugh and Miller hammered back-to-back homers leading off the third.
Pugh went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Miller was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two runs driven in. Smith went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
OCU takes on Bellevue at noon, then Midland (Neb.) at 2 p.m. Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark.
