Stars pull off 52-49 victory over USAO

OCU grabs second place in SAC

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University edged USAO 52-49 on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Catherine Kruschke, a senior from Dublin, Calif., produced 15 points and seven rebounds for OCU. The Stars, ranked 18th in NAIA women's basketball, went to 16-7, 13-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Daniela Wallen, a junior from Caracas, Venezuela, supplied OCU with 12 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and seven steals. Janae Haag, a junior from Olpe, Kan., gathered six points, 10 rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Oklahoma City locked in the second spot in the conference standings and the No. 2 seed in the SAC Tournament on March 2-5 in Waxahachie, Texas. Wayland Baptist secured its first SAC regular-season title. OCU had won or shared the previous six league regular-season crowns.
The Stars led 41-30 after Haag's bucket with 7:41 remaining. USAO reeled off a 7-0 run. Mahogany Nelms nailed a 3-pointer to cut OCU's lead to 45-43 with 3:37 left.
Nelms knocked down a 3 with 55 seconds left, but the Stars answered with Wallen's trey with 25 seconds left. Leah Cheney sank a trey for a 48-44 OCU advantage with 1:10 left.
OCU meets Texas Wesleyan at 6 p.m. Thursday in Fort Worth, Texas.
