Stars roll to three wins in Mansfield Softball Bash

OCU stays unbeaten through 13 games

MANSFIELD, Texas – Oklahoma City University squashed Eastern Mexico 16-4, Bethany (Kan.) 9-1 and Texas-Permian Basin 8-0 on Saturday in the Mansfield Softball Bash at James McKnight Park.
The Stars posted 10 runs for the eighth time and 15 runs for the second game this season. Oklahoma City, ranked sixth in NAIA softball, improved to 13-0.
Against Eastern New Mexico, Madison Ellis went 4-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs, while Samantha Stallbaumer was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two stolen bases, including a steal of home.
Ellis, a junior from Yukon, Okla., ripped a two-run home run to put OCU ahead 5-0 in the first inning. Ellis added an RBI single in the third and drove in two runs on a base hit in the fifth.
The Stars notched a season-high 19 hits.
Leslie Miller picked up the victory. Miller, a senior from Blanchard, Okla., improved to 5-0 on the season.
Against Bethany, Bailey Whitmore went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, four RBIs, a homer and a double. Laci Joyner added a 2-for-2 performance for OCU.
Whitmore nailed a two-run double into left-center field to give the Stars their first runs of the game. Whitmore's solo blast over the left-center field fence put the Stars up 7-1.
Georgia Wall had five strikeouts in five innings. Wall, a freshman from Marlow, Okla., added her third win of the season.
Against Texas-Permian Basin, Ellis, Joyner and Miller pounded homers. Miller led off the fourth with a solo shot. After Whitmore's base hit, Joyner and Ellis hit back-to-back homers.
Ellis was 3-for-4 with a homer, while Stallbaumer, a freshman from Haven, Kan., went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a theft.
Abby Meador fanned 13 in six innings in moving to 5-0.
OCU next plays in February N Fayetteville on Feb. 26-27 in Fayetteville, Ark.
