OCU reels in three victories in Mansfield Bash

Stars score 10 runs or more for seventh time this year

MANSFIELD, Texas – Oklahoma City University remained unbeaten through 10 games after a trio of wins Friday in the Mansfield Softball Bash at James McKnight Park.
OCU rolled past Bethany (Kan.) 13-1, then demolishing Panhandle State 16-0 before dispatching of Clarke (Iowa) 8-0. The Stars (10-0) hold the sixth spot in the NAIA rankings.
Against Bethany, OCU put together a four-run second inning and a five-run sixth. In the second, Leslie Miller knocked in two runs on a double to center field. Kyndra Holasek had RBI doubles in the second and the fourth.
Holasek, a senior from Mustang, Okla., went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs, and Jaci Smith, a freshman from Godley, Texas, was 3-for-4 and scored three times for OCU.
Abby Meador collected the victory. Meador, a sophomore from Midwest City, Okla., struck out 10 while allowing one hit in six innings to move to 4-0 this year.
Against Panhandle State, Kali Pugh pounded a two-run home run to cap a 10-run first inning for the Stars. Bailey Whitmore put OCU ahead 11-0 with a solo blast over the left-field fence in the second.
Pugh, a junior from Vista, Calif., was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs, and Madison Ellis, a junior from Yukon, Okla., went 2-for-4, scored twice and drove in a run.
Miller, a senior from Blanchard, Okla., fanned nine in five shutout innings. Miller (4-0) allowed three hits and two walks.
In the last game of the day, the Stars plated five runs in the sixth. Miller, Laci Joyner, Shelbi Legg and Smith all drove in runs.
Miller went 1-for-2 with two RBIs, and Samantha Stallbaumer, a freshman from Haven, Kan., went 2-for-2, scored twice, stole a base and drove in a run for Oklahoma City.
Georgia Wall shut out Clarke on two hits in five innings. Wall, a freshman from Marlow, Okla., notched four strikeouts and her second victory of the season.
The Stars take on Eastern New Mexico at noon, Bethany (Kan.) at 2 p.m. and Texas-Permian Basin at 4 p.m. Saturday in Mansfield, Texas.
