OCU downs Arlington Baptist 7-2, 8-6

Stars end four-game losing string

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – Oklahoma City University took 7-2 and 8-6 wins over Arlington Baptist (Texas) on Thursday at QuikTrip Park.
Garrett Foster nailed a home run and drove in four runs in the first game, while Jared Baker smacked two triples and scored four times in the second game for the Stars. OCU, ranked fifth in NAIA baseball, moved to 5-6.
In the first game, OCU plated four runs in the second inning. Foster pounded a two-run triple, while Hunter Marcum added an RBI double. Joe Haddox gave the Stars a 4-1 lead on a run-scoring single.
Foster, a sophomore from Ardmore, Okla., tacked on a fifth-inning run-scoring double and a solo homer in the seventh. Foster finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
Marcum, a senior from Purcell, Okla., and Landon Coon, a senior from Dale, Okla., each went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI for OCU.
Mark Simon notched his first victory as a Star, moving to 1-2 on the year. Simon, a junior right-hander from Houston, struck out nine while allowing two runs on four hits in a complete-game, seven-inning effort.
In the second contest, the Stars rang up four runs in the fourth. Baker swatted an RBI base hit. Dylan Delso struck for a two-run triple, and J.J. Bissell cranked an RBI triple for a 7-1 OCU advantage.
Baker, a junior from Edmond, Okla., went 3-for-4, scored four runs and drove in a run. Bissell, a senior from Fort Collins, Colo., was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Delso, a senior from Broken Arrow, Okla., went 3-for-4 with two runs driven in for the Stars.
Grant Hamilton, a senior righty from Oklahoma City, fanned seven in five innings, permitting three earned runs on three hits in getting the victory. Holden Lyons worked the sixth, while Ricky Parra struck out the side in the seventh for his first save with OCU.  
Oklahoma City meets Hastings (Neb.) at 10 a.m., then McPherson (Kan.) at 3 p.m. Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
