Pfau of Stars nabs TheMat.com wrestler of week

Junior from Parachute, Colo., adds to honors after becoming two-time national champion

OKLAHOMA CITY – Cody Pfau of Oklahoma City University has been selected as TheMat.com wrestler of the week.
Pfau, a junior from Parachute, Colo., defended her 109-pound national champion and led the Stars to the team runner-up finish in the Women's College Wrestling Association Championships on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Entering the tournament as the No. 1 seed, Pfau scorched the field, pinning all five of her opponents, including a second-period fall over Breonnah Neal of King (Tenn.) in the championship finals. Pfau avenged a loss to Neal from earlier in the season.
Pfau was named outstanding wrestler of the tournament and was awarded the outstanding wrestler of the year for the WCWA. She is now a three-time WCWA all-American with one year of eligibility remaining.
In total, Pfau owns 34 victories by fall this season for the most in OCU history. Pfau surpassed the previous record she held of 25 she posted last season. She finished the year 42-1 against collegiate competition.
In December, Pfau won the U.S. Senior Nationals held in Las Vegas, qualifying herself for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in April. She is a three-time U.S. Junior World Team member. With their performances, Margaret Douma, Natalia Hinojo and Shelby Morrison of the Stars qualified for the Olympic Trials.
Oklahoma City has won national championships in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 while finishing as WCWA runner-up in 2008, 2013, 2014 and 2016. The Stars captured the NWCA National Duals in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
