OCU rolls to 100-65 win over Wayland Baptist

Stars score 100 points for second time this season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's women's basketball team came out firing and never let up to defeat Wayland Baptist (Texas) 100-65 on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars, ranked 19th in NAIA Division I, opened the game on an 11-2 run and never looked back to move to 8-1, 2-0 in the SAC. OCU improved to 4-0 against ranked teams this season with the win over 22nd-ranked Wayland Baptist.
Daniela Wallen, a senior from Caracas, Venezuela, led OCU with 31 points and six steals to go along with four rebounds and two assists. She scored over 30 points for the second time this season and the third time in her career.
"We know what kind of program Wayland has," Oklahoma City head coach Bo Overton said. "We knew we had to be prepared with how good their team is, and I thought we really took care of business today. When we don't turn the ball over, you can see how powerful our offense can be."
Daniela Galindo, a junior from Shattuck, Okla., had season highs in points (24), assists (eight) and blocks (three) to go along with six rebounds and two steals. She also put in four 3-pointers and shot 10-for-16 from the floor.
Allison Frey, a junior from Mustang, Okla., scored in double figures for the first time this season with 10 points to go along with three rebounds off the bench.
The Stars shot 61.3 percent from the floor and 52.4 percent from beyond the arc while holding Wayland (5-2, 1-1 SAC) to 31.5 percent from the floor.
"I tell our players all the time, and I told them again at halftime, 'You're either getting better or going down,' " Overton said. "We need to keep that headed upwards throughout the season."
Kendrick Clark led Wayland with 14 points while also grabbing two rebounds.
OCU's next game will be 6 p.m. Wednesday against Haskell (Kan.) at Abe Lemons Arena.
