Stars blow out Langston 85-49

OCU posts 48 points in paint

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University opened the game with a hot start en route to an 85-49 victory over Langston on Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
OCU built a 23-4 lead as Langston went 1-for-9 from the field and committed six turnovers. The Stars, ranked 19th in NAIA Division I women's basketball, improved to 4-1.
Daniela Wallen, a senior from Caracas, Venezuela, led the Stars with 21 points, nine rebounds and two blocks to go with three assists in just 25 minutes of action.
Brooke Irwin, a junior from Mustang, Okla., asserted her presence inside, scoring 17 points while grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out two assists. Sixteen of Irwin's 17 points came from inside the paint.
"We talked all week about getting off to a great start," OCU head coach Bo Overton said. "I really like the way our team was very focused coming out. It wasn't just one player either, it was everybody."
The Stars dominated the game from start to finish, thanks in large part to a 48-14 advantage in points in the paint. OCU also held the Lady Lions to 28.6 percent from the field and forced 23 turnovers.
Daniela Galindo, a junior from Shattuck, Okla., provided OCU with 16 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
The Lady Lions were led by Alexandra Strong, who scored 14 points off the bench while shooting 4-for-9 from beyond the arc.
The Stars next game is at 2 p.m. Friday against Loyola (La.) at First NBC Court in New Orleans.
