OCU edges Loyola 63-61

Stars rally from nine-point third-quarter deficit

NEW ORLEANS – Daniela Wallen had a basket with no time left on the clock to give Oklahoma City University a 63-61 victory over Loyola (La.) on Friday at First NBC Court in a battle of top 25-ranked teams in NAIA women's basketball.
Wallen, a senior from Caracas, Venezuela, led the Stars with 12 points and four rebounds while also adding two assists.  Oklahoma City, ranked 19th, moved to 5-1 on the year while 24th-ranked Loyola dropped to 4-2.
Daniela Galindo, a junior from Shattuck, Okla., provided Oklahoma City with 11 points, three rebounds, four assists and three treys. NaShyla Hammons, a freshman from Oklahoma City, scored 10 points and grabbed two rebounds.
The Stars were down 42-33 in the third quarter before storming back in the fourth quarter.
OCU took the victory even with shooting only 36.2 percent from the floor, while holding Loyola to 39.3 percent. The Stars took advantage of great defense, scoring 26 points off turnovers.
The Wolf Pack were led by Shayne Charles, who scored 14 points and grabbed nine boards.
OCU will stay in New Orleans to take on Southern-New Orleans at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
