OCU topples third-ranked Our Lady of the Lake 100-92

Stars finish Oklahoma City Classic presented by Courtyard Marriott Northwest Oklahoma City 2-0

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University defeated Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) 100-92 in a clash of top 25-ranked NAIA women's basketball teams Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Daniela Wallen, a senior from Caracas, Venezuela, scored a career-high 35 points to power the Stars. OCU, ranked 19th in NAIA, moved to 3-1 on the season, while third-ranked Our Lady of the Lake went to 2-3.
The Stars put up 100 points for the first time since Feb. 19, 2015 against St. Gregory's in Oklahoma City. OCU went 2-0 in the Oklahoma City Classic presented by Courtyard Marriott Northwest Oklahoma City.
"Any time you have a player who scores 35 points and has 15 rebounds it's extremely impressive," OCU head coach Bo Overton said. "But I don't think she did it on her own. We had great games from a number of people in this one and when you beat a good team like that it's always great for your team."
Wallen grabbed 15 rebounds to go along with one block and one steal. NaShyla Hammons, a freshman from Oklahoma City, had the best game of her young career producing career highs in points (14), rebounds (nine), assists (four) and blocks (three).
OCU led 71-68 after three quarters, then the Stars began the fourth quarter with a 10-2 run to pull away.
Daniela Galindo, a junior from Shattuck, Okla., scored 20 points, going 4-for-4 from 3-point range while also dishing out nine assists and producing four rebounds with three blocks. Brooke Irwin, a junior from Mustang, Okla., scored 14 points and pulled down five rebounds.
OCU shot 55.7 percent from the floor and 43.8 percent from 3-point-range and outrebounded the Saints 54-31.
Quintianna LeShore led Our Lady with 20 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.
The Stars' next game will be Tuesday against Langston at 5:30 p.m. at Abe Lemons Arena.
