Stars stomp LSU-Shreveport 82-58

Wallen's double-double propels OCU

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University trampled LSU-Shreveport 82-58 on Friday at Abe Lemons Arena in the Oklahoma City Classic presented by Courtyard Marriott Northwest Oklahoma City.
Daniela Wallen, a senior from Caracas, Venezuela, fueled the Stars with 26 points and 11 rebounds. OCU, ranked 19th in NAIA Division I women's basketball, went to 2-1.
Daniela Galindo, a junior from Shattuck, Okla., totaled 18 points, four rebounds, five steals, two blocked shots and four 3-pointers, while Alexis Hill, a junior from Byng, Okla., added nine points, five rebounds, three assists and two blocks for OCU.
Wallen sank 12 of 19 shots from the field and posted her 14th career double-double with the Stars. OCU built a 47-34 rebounding advantage and rejected seven shots. Janae Haag, a senior from Olpe, Kan., contributed two blocks.
Oklahoma City shot 60 percent from the floor and 54.5 percent from 3-point range in the first half. The Stars finished with a 50.7 percent field-goal percentage.
In the second quarter, OCU stretched its lead into double digits as Galindo nailed a trey to put the margin at 26-16 at the 7:46 mark. Wallen followed by dropping in a 3.
In the third, NaShyla Hammons scored on a transition bucket to push the Stars' advantage to 50-30 and cap a 7-0 OCU run with 6:31 remaining in the quarter.
Hammons' putback provided OCU with its largest lead of the night 71-44 with 6:06 showing on the fourth-quarter clock.
The Stars take on third-ranked Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) at 3 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
