SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University took its first loss of the season in the second game of the John Brown Classic 63-58 to Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) on Saturday afternoon at Bill George Arena.
OCU's Daniela Wallen and Daniela Galindo each scored 17 points in the loss. The Stars, ranked 19th in NAIA Division I women's basketball, went to 1-1 in 2016-17.
Wallen, a senior from Caracas, Venezuela, also grabbed five rebounds and three steals, while Galindo, a junior from Shattuck, Okla., pulled down a team high six boards to go along with two assists and one block.
The Stars pulled ahead early, building an 18-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 27-26 lead at half.
"We learned a lot about our team this weekend," OCU head coach Bo Overton said. "I was very impressed with Lindenwood-Belleville. They really played hard against us."
The Lady Lynx were led by Alison Webb, who scored 16 points with six rebounds, one assist and one block. Tiara Bramlett helped Lindenwood-Belleville off the bench, scoring nine points and grabbing seven rebounds in just 13 minutes.
OCU's Mariana Duran, a senior from Yaracuy, Venezuela, scored 13 points to go along with four assists and two steals. Brooke Irwin had her second straight double-digit point total off the bench, scoring 10 points and pulling down five rebounds.
The Stars' next game is in the Oklahoma City Classic presented by Courtyard Marriott Northwest at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18 against LSU-Shreveport at Abe Lemons Arena.
