SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University began its regular season in the John Brown Classic with a 77-66 win over College of the Ozarks (Mo.) on Friday night at Bill George Arena.
Daniela Galindo, a junior from Shattuck, Okla., scored a game-high 21 points while also dishing out four assists and grabbing four rebounds for Oklahoma City, ranked 19th in NAIA Division I women's basketball. The Stars (1-0) had four players produce double-digit nights in points including senior all-American Daniela Wallen.
Wallen, from Caracas, Venezuela, produced a double-double scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds to go along with six steals and one block in the contest.
Junior Brooke Irwin and senior Mariana Duran scored 14 and 10 points respectively. Duran, from Yaracuy, Venezuela, also notched a team-high six assists and only one turnover. Irwin, out of Mustang, Okla., blocked two shots and pulled down five boards.
The Lady Bobcats (5-1), ranked seventh in NAIA Division II, were led by Cassidy Johnson who scored 18 points and grabbed three rebounds in the loss.
The Stars continue play in the John Brown Classic at 1 p.m. Saturday against Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) in Siloam Springs, Ark.
