OCU trounces St. Gregory's

12th-ranked Stars close 2016 undefeated in SAC play

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University finished unbeaten in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball play with a 25-23, 25-13, 25-19 win over St. Gregory's on Tuesday at Sumner Field House. 
The Stars, ranked 12th in the NAIA, will be idle until the SAC Tournament on Nov. 8. As the top seed, regular-season conference champion OCU (27-3, 18-0 SAC) will host a quarterfinal match at Abe Lemons Arena.
Caitlin Chamness posted seven aces to set the Oklahoma City single-season ace record. Chamness, a junior from Littleton, Colo., owns 84 aces to surpass Maryna Verbovetska's 79 in 2006. Manon Soraru, a junior from Mulhouse, France, led the Stars with 13 kills.
OCU's Sanja Vojnovic, a junior from Bajeljena, Bosnia, accumulated 32 assists, six digs, four kills, three aces and two blocks, and Holly Randall, a junior from Edmond, Okla., picked up seven kills and four blocks.
Dani Chase, a junior from Yukon, Okla., scooped up 17 digs, while Shekinah Clarke, a sophomore from Waianae, Hawaii, added six kills and 13 digs for the Stars. Stefani Nell, a junior from Tulsa, Okla., compiled two kills and nine digs.
In the first set, Vojnovic served up two aces and assisted Randall on a kill to put OCU on top 22-17. Clarke had a kill to give the Stars set point, then Soraru closed out the set with a kill.
In the third, Vojnovic supplied OCU with a kill, then an ace to seal the win and first undefeated league season for OCU in volleyball.
