OKLAHOMA CITY – Britani Tripp scored twice to help Oklahoma City University pick up a 2-0 conference win vs. USAO on Tuesday at Stars Field.
Tripp, a senior from Edmond, Okla., scored her sixth and seventh goals of the season to tie her for the team lead with teammate Sara Ricks. Oklahoma City improved to 6-9, 4-4 in Sooner Athletic Conference women's soccer.
OCU coach Brian Harvey reached women's college victory No. 349. Harvey has a 349-109-25 women's record in his 23rd year. Harvey's combined men's and women's record at OCU is 760-300-64 in his 31st year. Harvey notched career win No. 750 against Kansas Wesleyan's men 1-0 on Sept. 17 in Salina, Kan.
The first goal, in the 14th minute, was scored off a penalty kick after USAO committed a penalty in the box. The game remained 1-0 until Tripp put the game on ice in the 82nd minute to give OCU the 2-0 advantage.
Kirsten Thomas, a sophomore from Keller, Texas, recorded her fourth shutout of the year. Playing the entire 90 minutes in the goal, Thomas recorded two saves.
As a team, USAO outshot OCU 10-6, but the Stars held a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal.
The Stars' next match will be the final match of the regular season at Stars Field vs. Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 3 p.m. Saturday. OCU seniors Tripp, Kailea Atkins, Felica Ellison, Syrina Lopez, Victoria Little and Vanessa Mendoza will be honored after the match.
