Stars reel in second-place NWCA National Duals finish

OCU advances to title dual for eighth time in nine years

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Oklahoma City University took runner-up in the NWCA National Duals to King (Tenn.) 27-19 on Saturday at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
The Stars, ranked second in the Women's College Wrestling Association, finished second in the National Duals for the third time in four years. OCU (16-5) advanced to the championship dual with a 23-20 win over fourth-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.).
In the title dual, Becka Leathers, Rachel Young and Natalia Hinojo rallied OCU to a 14-13 lead after the 136-pound match. Leathers, a freshman from Choctaw, Okla., pinned Ricki Lang in 1:37 in the 123-pound bout, while Hinojo, a junior from El Paso, Texas, won 10-0 over Rachel Hale at 136.
King answered with victories in the next three matches, including two technical-fall victories and a fall.
Against Cumberlands, Hinojo had a technical-fall win 10-0 over Kristen Yamasaki to seal the victory. Cody Pfau of OCU pinned Sarah Allen in the 109-pound match, while Rachel Archer and Leathers provided the Stars with technical falls.
OCU competes in the Ottawa Braves Open at 9 a.m. Jan. 17 in Ottawa, Kan.
