Stars throttle Bacone 91-59

OCU cruise by Bacone to improve to 6-4

MUSKOGEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University silenced Bacone 91-59 on Thursday at the Palmer Center in the first meeting ever between the two schools.
Allison Frey, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., was one of five Stars that scored in double digits with 20 points stemming off of 4-for-5 shooting from the 3-point territory. The Stars, ranked 15th in NAIA Division I women's basketball, improved to 6-4 overall and 3-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
OCU led 41-33 at halftime and pulled away right out of the gates in the third quarter by outscoring the Lady Warriors 23-9.
The Stars expanded the lead to as many as 36 points with 4:19 left in the fourth quarter. OCU shot 20-for-21 from the free-throw line in the second half, alone and 24 of 25 overall from the foul line.
Daniela Wallen, a junior from Caracas, Venezuela, grabbed a team-high five steals, while notching 19 points, four rebounds and two assists.
Catherine Kruschke, a senior from Dublin, Calif., notched 14 points, six rebounds and two assists.
OCU's Samantha Stallbaumer and Markeisha Johnson added 10 points each.
Ashley Berry-Wallace paced Bacone with 13 points, while Brittany Edwards added 12 points.
The Stars shot 45 percent from the field and held the Lady Warriors to 32 percent shooting. Oklahoma City turned the ball over 17 times but forced the Lady Warriors into 32 turnovers.
The Stars are back in action against John Brown (Ark.) in the NAIA Network Game of the Week at 3 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
