Stars fall to Wayland Baptist 82-67

OCU has its conference winning streak snapped

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University had its Sooner Athletic Conference winning streak snapped at 12 games as the Stars lost 82-67 against Wayland Baptist on Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
The loss also put an end to a 28-game home winning streak at Abe Lemons Arena. The Stars' last home loss was against Benedictine (Kan.) 81-74 on Dec. 20, 2013.

Daniela Wallen, a junior from Caracas, Venezuela, led OCU with 28 points, eight rebounds and five steals, while shooting 8-for-9 from the free-throw line. The Stars, ranked 14th in NAIA Division I women's basketball, moved to 11-5 on the season and 8-1 in SAC play.
Allison Frey, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., notched 12 points, while shooting 2 of 6 from 3-point territory and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
After being outscored 19-7 in the first quarter, the Stars used a strong second quarter to go into the half trailing by one point at 38-37. However, this was the closest OCU would get.
The No. 21 ranked Flying Queens (13-4, 8-1 SAC) came out in the third quarter on a 13-0 run to extend their lead to 14 points.
OCU's Amanda Ingram broke the scoreless streak with a free throw at the 4:27 mark. The Stars were outscored 27-15 in the third quarter. Ingram, a junior from Oklahoma City, finished with five points, four rebounds and three steals.
To start the fourth quarter, the Flying Queens went on an 8-0 run to take the biggest lead of the game 73-52 with 6:25 left in the game.
The Stars shot 46.4 percent from the field in the first half and 38.5 percent in the second half. Wayland Baptist managed 51.7 percent in the first half, while shooting 56.7 percent in the second half.
The Stars made 16 of 21 from the free-throw line, while the Flying Queens shot 7-for-8 from the charity line. Wayland Baptist outrebounded the Stars 34-27 and recorded 17 second-chance points compared to OCU's eight.
The Stars travel to play John Brown (Ark.) 3 p.m. Saturday in Siloam Springs, Ark.
