OCU shuts out SAGU 5-0

Stars win first SAC game of season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University cruised past Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) 5-0 on Tuesday at Stars Field in the first game of Sooner Athletic Conference play this year. 
OCU improved to 5-3, 1-0 in SAC women's soccer on the season, while SAGU dropped to 5-4, 0-1. Sara Ricks, a freshman from Keller, Texas, started the scoring in the 12th minute off an assist by Vanessa Mendoza. The goal marked the third of the season for Ricks.
In the 55th minute, Allison Worsham, a senior from Edmond, Okla., scored an unassisted goal for her fifth goal of the year. Shortly after in the 58th minute, Worsham assisted Ailee Thompson, a senior from Oklahoma City, for her sixth goal of the year. Worsham added her second goal of the game and sixth of the season in the 59th minute from an assist by Britani Soesbee
Carissa Turang, a senior from Corona, Calif., scored an unassisted goal in the 84th minute.
Stars goalkeeper Kirsten Thomas, a freshman from Keller, Texas, had three saves in her first collegiate career shutout and improved to 4-3 on the season. Alaina Jones registered 10 saves and dropped to 1-2 as the Lions goalkeeper. 
OCU dominated shots with a 28-8 advantage.
The Stars return to action 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 against John Brown (Ark.).
