Stars show offensive power in opener

OCU scores six times, allows no goals

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University women's soccer team won its opening match 6-0 over Lyon (Ark.) on Saturday at Stars Field.
The win marked career victory No. 724 for coach Brian Harvey. The Stars are now 1-0 to start the season, while Lyon (Ark.) dropped to 1-2 on the season.
Senior forwards Allison Worsham and Ailee Thompson each scored twice. OCU senior Carissa Turang added a goal, and freshman Sara Clarke scored her first career goal.
Worsham initiated the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 21:07 mark of the first half. Worsham's second goal occurred at 49:02 in the second half and was assisted by Turang.
Thompson scored her first goal at the 29:49 mark using an assist from Britani Soesbee. Worsham assisted Thompson on her second goal at 41:53.
Turang scored her goal at the 53:45 mark with assists from Worsham and Thompson.
Clarke's goal came from an assist from Soesbee at 68:28.
Kayla McKenna recorded a shutout and four saves in her first career start as a goalkeeper. Lyon's goalkeeper, Ali Ertl, recorded seven saves.
The Stars play Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) at 1 p.m. Sept. 6 at Stars Field.
