OCU hosts NAIA Championship Opening Round Oklahoma City Bracket

Stars take on Concordia (Neb.) at 3 p.m. Monday at Ann Lacy Stadium

OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University hosts the NAIA Softball Championship Opening Round Oklahoma City Bracket starting Monday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Top-ranked Oklahoma City, Concordia (Ore.), Grand View (Iowa) and Concordia (Neb.) vie for an NAIA Softball World Series berth in a double-elimination tournament Monday through Wednesday. The championship game has been scheduled for noon Wednesday with an if-necessary game 3 p.m. that day.
The No. 1-seeded Stars (52-4) boast of Sooner Athletic Conference player of the year Abby Meador among eight first-team all-conference choices – McRae Cayton, Jocelin Diaz, Kyndra Holasek, Jamie Rateliff, Kylee Rounsaville and Carissa Turang. Holasek, Rateliff and Rounsaville became three-time all-SAC choices.
Meador, a freshman from Midwest City, Okla., has gone 25-3 with a 1.19 earnd run average, 217 strikeouts, 12 complete games, eight shutouts and three saves in 153 innings pitched.

Oklahoma City coach Phil McSpadden has notched more wins against four-year schools than any college softball coach. OCU owns national championships won in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2007 and finished as NAIA runner-up in 1986, 1993, 1999, 2010 and 2012.
Concordia (Ore.), ranked No. 17, lost in the first round of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament. The Cavaliers (40-16) are led by senior pitcher Lucy Baldovino, who is 22-5 on the year and won the CCC pitcher of the year.
The Cavaliers placed three other players on the all-CCC team: second baseman Destinee Chang, outfielder Meghan Luebbert and catcher Kate Santos.
Grand View qualified for the Opening Round by taking the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament title. The Vikings swept the all-MCC players of the year and coach of the year, while adding four more players on the all-MCC first team.
Jessica Grochala, a junior third baseman, won the MCC player of the year while she led the MCC in batting average (.499) and added 14 home runs, 46 RBIs and 34 runs scored. Claudia Farrell, a freshman right-hander, won the MCC pitcher of the year and boasts a 20-3 record with a 1.19 ERA in 158.1 innings pitched.
Concordia (Neb.) grabbed the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament championship. The Bulldogs (28-21) are making their second appearance in program history in the NAIA Championship Opening Round.
Julia Tyree leads the charge for the Bulldogs in batting average (.415) and RBIs (38), while taking to the circle with a 5-5 record on the season.
The 10 opening-round tournament winners will comprise the field for the NAIA Softball World Series on May 22-28 in Sioux City, Iowa.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students 18 and under per session. Tournament games will be available via live video at a rate of $8.95 per game or in a tournament package for $19.95.
