OCU suffers 11-9 setback to Wayland Baptist

Stars reach double digits in hits for 26th time in 2015

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University took an 11-9 setback to Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Saturday night at Jim Wade Stadium in the Sooner Athletic Conference baseball tournament.
The Stars (39-11) left the tying run on first base at the finish of the game. OCU, ranked second in the NAIA, meets Southwestern Christian at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the SAC Tournament.
Reggie Wilson launched a three-run home run beyond the right-field wall with two out in the eighth inning to cut OCU's deficit to two runs. Adonis Askew also reached home plate on a wild pitch in the eighth.
In the ninth, Connor Lynch led off with a single into right-center field, then Dylan Delso drew a walk. Wayland Baptist relief pitcher Logan Evans closed out the game by striking out the next two batters and getting a flyout to right field.
Austin Davis' sacrifice fly in the seventh made the difference for Wayland Baptist. Oklahoma Baptist takes on Wayland Baptist in the 11 a.m. game Sunday.
Oklahoma City built a 4-1 second-inning advantage using two Wayland errors and Jared Baker's bases-loaded walk.
Wayland Baptist responded with the game's next eight runs. Will Bass had a two-run homer to cut Wayland's deficit to 4-3 in the third. Davis hit an RBI double, then scored on a wild pitch to put Wayland Baptist in front 5-4 in the fourth.
Wilson, a junior from Beaumont, Texas, went 2-for-5 with a run scored, his seventh homer of the season and three RBIs, while Lynch, a senior from Marietta, Ga., was 2-for-4. J.J. Bissell, a junior from Windsor, Colo., went 2-for-5 and scored twice, and Adam Clark, a senior from St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, scored two runs for the Stars.
