OCU advances to NAIA Opening Round championship game

Stars play Concordia (Calif.) for NAIA Championship Opening Round Oklahoma City Bracket championship

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University topped York (Neb.) 10-4 and escaped Missouri Baptist 8-7 Thursday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA baseball improved to 45-12 on the bat of Joe Lytle's single in the 10th inning against Missouri Baptist.
Oklahoma City plays Concordia (Calif.) at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Jim Wade Stadium for a chance to go to the NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho.
In the first game, OCU found themselves down 3-0 in the first inning before roaring back with a vengeance.
Dylan Delso, a junior from Broken Arrow, Okla., crushed his sixth home run of the season in the fourth inning to pull the Stars within one. Later in the inning Jared Baker, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., hit an RBI double to tie the game before Josh Halbert, a senior from Choctaw, Okla., smacked a two run single.
Reggie Wilson, a junior from Beaumont, Texas, crushed a triple down the left field line and drove in two runs to put the stars ahead 8-4.
OCU added a run in the six and one in the seventh and capped the scoring.
Dustin Cook, a junior from Huffman, Texas, improved to 8-1 on 8.1 innings on the mound with one earned run on five hits and struck out nine.
The Stars traded blows with Missouri Baptist in the second game and had the game tied on three different occasions.
OCU took a 7-4 lead in the eighth inning when Joe Lytle, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., hit a double that scored Reggie Wilson.
Missouri Baptist's Orlando Olivera blasted a three run home run to left center to tie the game a 7-7, his second home run of the game.
In the eighth, Wilson doubled over the third baseman's head on the check swing with two outs. Lytle then hit a single through the left side that scored Wilson.
Matt Young, a sophomore from Glendora, Calif., went five innings in the starting roll, allowed two earned runs on six hits and struck out five. Holden Lyons, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., collected the win on 2.2 innings of work, allowed no runs on no hits and struck out five, including the last batter of the game.
