Stars drop 5-4 verdict to Missouri Baptist in extra innings

OCU continues Opening Round play 6 p.m. Wednesday at Jim Wade Stadium

OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University fell to Missouri Baptist 5-4 in 13 innings in the NAIA Championship Opening Round Opening Round Oklahoma City Bracket on Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The top-ranked Stars went to 43-12 in baseball on a hit by pitch in the 13th inning. Oklahoma City continues play in the Opening Round 6 p.m. Wednesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Missouri Baptist jumped on top in the first inning and took a three-run lead in the top half. The Stars responded when Dylan Delso, a junior form Broken Arrow, Okla., doubled to left field that plated Reggie Wilson.
In the fourth, J.J. Bissell, a junior form Windsor, Colo., doubled down the right field line that scored Jared Baker and Delso. Later in the inning, Adam Clark, a senior from St. John's. New Brunswick, Canada, laid down a sacrifice bunt that brought home Bissell and was safe at first on a catcher's interference.
Both squats went scoreless for eight innings before Missouri Baptist's Brian Poupore was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score the winning run in the 13th inning.
Delso went 3-for-6 on the night with run scored and an RBI, while Connor Lynch, a senior from Marietta, Ga., went 3-for-6.
Carlos Chavez, a junior from Rio Rancho, N.M., went 6.1 innings, allowed four runs on three hits and struck out 10, while, Holden Lyons, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., pitched four innings in relief, allowed one run on six hits and struck out three in the loss.
