OCU splits doubleheader with Rogers State

Stars hit four home runs in 13-4 win

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University crushed Rogers State 13-4 before dropping a 3-2 decision Saturday at the Diamond Sports Complex.
McRae Cayton and Madison Ellis smacked back-to-back home runs to highlight a six-run fifth inning in the first game for the Stars. OCU, ranked No. 1 in NAIA softball, moved to 49-3.
Jamie Rateliff pounded two homers as OCU nailed four home runs. The Stars entered the day tops in the NAIA at 1.70 home runs per game.
Amanda Ingram scored on Carissa Turang's grounder to tie the game 4-4 in the fourth. Jocelin Diaz swatted an RBI double to left to give OCU the go-ahead run, then Diaz scored on Kylee Rounsaville's infield single.
Cayton hammered a two-run shot past left-field fence, then Ellis had a solo shot beyond the right-field wall. Kyndra Holasek put OCU up 10-4 with a double into the left-center outfield gap.
Rateliff notched her second multi-homer game of the season by smashing a solo shot to right with one out in the sixth.
Diaz, a senior from Maracay, Venezuela, went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and three RBIs, and Cayton, a junior from Irvine, Calif., was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Ellis, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., and Rateliff, a senior from Mustang, Okla., also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs each for the Stars.
Abby Meador picked up the win. She struck out seven in five shutout innings.
In the second game, Holasek reached home plate on Diaz's bunt hit in the first. Rateliff scored on a double steal with Cayton in the fourth.
Rogers State rallied with Whitney Hamilton's two-run single, then Taylor Sutterfield took home on an error.
Meador, a freshman from Midwest City, Okla., pitched in both games and moved to 23-2. Meador fanned three in six innings.
OCU completes the regular season in a 5 p.m. twin bill Tuesday against USAO at Ann Lacy Stadium.
