Stars escape OBU in SAC Tournament

OCU plays Mid-America Christian at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Ann Lacy Stadium

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University dropped Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) 8-0 and Oklahoma Baptist 7-6 Thursday in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament at Ann Lacy Stadium.
The Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA softball, improved to 51-3 while scoring the winning run against OBU on a wild pitch in the seventh inning. OCU plays Mid-America Christian 1:30 p.m. Friday at Ann Lacy Stadium in the last round of the tournament pool play.
The win against Southwestern Assemblies of God marked OCU's 19th 50-win season under coach Phil McSpadden.
In the first game, Kyndra Holasek, a junior from Mustang, Okla., got hit by a pitch that plated Emily Krienke to give the Stars the early lead in the second inning.
In the third, Krienke, a senior from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, doubled to left-center to drive in two.
Oklahoma City scored two runs in the fourth on Jocelin Diaz's two-run home run to left field. Diaz, a senior from Maracay, Venezuela, has hit 12 home runs this season. Krienke later singled to left field and scored Kylee Rounsaville.
McRae Cayton, a junior from Irvine, Calif, ended the first game with a single up that middle that drove in Madison Ellis.
Krienke went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and scored a run, while Jamie Rateliff, a senior from Mustang, Okla., went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.
Maria Gomez, a senior from Yaracuy, Venezuela, improved to 18-1 on four innings of work, allowed no runs on five hits and struck out four.
In the night game, the Stars took an early 2-0 lead on Rounsaville's two-run single to center field in the first inning, before OBU answered with four runs of their own.
Oklahoma City responded in the second when they scored runs on a wild pitch and a passed ball. Rounsaville, a senior from Mustang, Okla., drove in Cheyanne Terry with a single through the left side that put the Stars up 5-4.
OCU came through down a run in the final inning. Cayton singled through the right side of the infield and drove in Rateliff from second to tie the game at 6-6. The Stars took the lead for good on a wild pitch that scored Carissa Turang.
Kylee Rounsaville went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs, while Madison Ellis went 2-for-2 and scored once.
Abby Meador, a freshman from Midwest City, Okla., improved to 24-2 while going 4.2 innings in the circle. She allowed four runs on three hits and struck out six.
