Stars roll past Oklahoma Baptist 13-4, 13-1

Meador takes wins in both games Thursday

SHAWNEE, Okla. – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University trounced Oklahoma Baptist 13-4 and 13-1 on Thursday at Lady Bison Park.
Oklahoma City hit double figures in runs scored for the 23rd time this season. The Stars, top-ranked in NAIA softball, moved to 48-2, 25-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
In the first game, OCU overcame a 3-2 deficit by plating five runs in the third inning. McRae Cayton belted a three-run home run to left, then Madison Ellis followed by nailing a solo shot over the left-field wall. Kylee Rounsaville took a hit by pitch with the bases full to give the Stars a 7-3 lead.
Cayton added an RBI single, while Cheyanne Terry knocked in another run as OCU built an 11-3 fourth-inning advantage. Carissa Turang socked a two-run double to close out the Stars' scoring in the fifth.
In the first, Jocelin Diaz doubled in a run, and Rounsaville swatted a run-scoring base hit to put together a 2-0 OCU lead.
Tarang, a senior from Whittier, Calif., had a season-high four hits in four at-bats, a double, two runs scored and two runs driven in, while Cayton, a junior from Irvine, Calif., was 3-for-3 with her eighth homer, a run scored and four RBIs. Kyndra Holasek, a junior from Mustang, Okla., went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored, and Rounsaville, a senior from Mustang, Okla., went 2-for-3 with two runs knocked in for OCU.
Abby Meador collected the victory. Meador, a freshman from Midwest City, Okla., had eight strikeouts in the final 3.2 innings pitched. She allowed one hit.
In the nightcap, the Stars broke a 1-1 tie by erupting for eight runs in the fourth. Cayton smacked a run-scoring base hit to break the tie. Amanda Ingram reached home plate on a double steal with Turang, then Kyndra Holasek doubled in a run. Diaz had an RBI single, and Jamie Rateliff drove in two runs on an infield single. Laci Joyner put OCU ahead 9-1 by pounding a two-run homer.
Diaz went 3-for-3 with a double, run scored and an RBI, while Cayton was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Ellis, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs knocked in for the Stars.
Meador fanned nine in five innings to get the win. Meador improved to 22-1.
The Stars take on Rogers State in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Saturday in Claremore, Okla.
