OCU clips Oklahoma Wesleyan 22-21

Stars match 2014 win total

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Dylan Delso's two-run single brought Oklahoma City University a 22-21 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan on Tuesday at Bill Doegnes Memorial Park Stadium in a battle of top 10-ranked teams in NAIA baseball.
Oklahoma City clubbed a season-high six home runs as J.J. Bissell hit three, and Connor Lynch, Joe Lytle and Reggie Wilson each went deep. The fourth-ranked Stars improved to 35-10, while eighth-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan dropped to 40-10.
OCU's Miguel Gonzalez clinched the victory by getting Brandon Cummings to line out to right field with the bases loaded. In the bottom of the ninth inning, David Espinoza singled and advanced to second base on an error to put the tying run on third and the winning run on second for Oklahoma Wesleyan with none out. Gonzalez retired Avery Flores and Will Price on groundouts before intentionally walking Zair Koeiman to fill the bases.
In the top of the inning, OCU erased a 21-18 deficit as Bissell led off the inning by crushing his third homer of the game beyond the right-field wall. Jared Baker added a sacrifice fly to score Joe Haddox for the second out of the inning.
Oklahoma Wesleyan erupted for 10 runs in the eighth. Brice McCulloch put the Eagles on top 21-18 with a three-run double.
Adam Clark laced an RBI base hit to left to give the Stars an 18-10 seventh-inning cushion. Bissell hammered a grand slam, and Wilson nailed a two-run shot as part of a seven-run fourth. Bissell broke a 6-6 tie with a two-run blast in the third.
The Stars overcame a 4-0 first-inning deficit. Lytle smacked a three-run homer past the right-field wall to put OCU in front 6-4 in the second.
OCU notched a season-best 26 hits while equaling its win total from last year. Clark, a senior from St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, was 5-for-6 with two runs scored and a run driven in, while Delso, a junior from Broken Arrow, Okla., went 4-for-7 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Lynch, a senior from Marietta, Ga., went 4-for-7, scored a run and drove in two runs, and Wilson, a junior from Beaumont, Texas, was 3-for-7 with three runs scored and four RBIs.
Bissell, a junior from Windsor, Colo., added seven RBIs, three runs scored and a 3-for-5 performance, and Lytle, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., went 3-for-6 with three runs scored and three runs knocked in for the Stars.
Gonzalez, a junior right-hander from Los Angeles, improved to 5-0 on the season.
The Stars take on Sooner Athletic Conference foe Mid-America Christian at 7 p.m. Thursday at Jim Wade Stadium.
