Stars cruise past MACU 14-4

OCU hit back-to-back home runs in fifth inning

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University overwhelmed Mid-America Christian on 14-4 Thursday night at Jim Wade Stadium.
OCU powered back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning to take the lead and did not look back. The Stars, ranked No. 3 in NAIA baseball, improved to 36-10, 17-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Oklahoma City was down 4-0 entering the bottom of the fifth inning. Dylan Delso, a senior from Broken Arrow, Okla., smashed a grand slam down the right-field line to tie the game with one swing of the bat. Connor Lynch, a senior from Marietta, Ga. clobbered a home run to left-center two pitches later to give the Stars the lead for good.
OCU added two runs in the seventh before Joe Lytle, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., singled to center field that drove in Adam Clark and Ryan Wright. Adonis Askew, a senior from Houston, then singled to right center that scored Wilson. Lynch ended the seventh with a double down the left field line that scored Askew and extended the Stars lead to 12-4.
In the eighth, Josh Halbert, a senior from Choctaw, Okla., singled through the left side to plate Hunter Marcum. Lytle ended the game by beating out a double-play ball to allow Halbert to score.
Lynch went 3-for-4, scored two runs and drove in two, while Lytle went 2-for-4, drove in three and scored two runs on the night.
Matt Young, a sophomore from Glendora, Calif., improved to 8-0 on the season with five innings of work and stuck out five. Miguel Gonzalez, a junior from Los Angeles, collected his sixth save on three innings of one hit ball and struck out four.
The Stars continue a three-game series against Mid-America Christian 3 p.m. Friday at James Curtis Field in Oklahoma City.
