OCU routs SAGU twice

Chavez takes no-hitter into final inning, settles for one-hitter for Stars

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Oklahoma City University collected 17-1 and 12-4 victories over Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Sunday at the Waxahachie Sports Complex.
OCU's Carlos Chavez hurled a complete-game one-hitter, and J.J. Bissell pounded two home runs in the first game. The Stars, ranked fourth in NAIA baseball, piled up 31 hits while improving to 34-10, 16-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Chavez, a junior right-hander from Rio Rancho, N.M., had a perfect game until Lance Marks reached on Adam Clark's error leading off the bottom of the sixth inning. Chavez (6-0) carried a no-hitter into the seventh until Bryant Threadgill had a double with one out. Chavez struck out 12.
Bissell, a junior from Windsor, Colo., hammered a three-run homer in the top of the third, then a two-run blast past the center-field fence in the fifth. Bissell tops the Stars with nine home runs.
OCU had 15 or more hits for the fifth time this year. Joe Lytle, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., went 3-for-5, scored three times, tripled and stole a base, while Connor Lynch, a senior from Marietta, Ga., was 3-for-5 with a double.
Ryan Wright, a senior from Fruitland, Idaho, was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a double and two RBIs, and Reggie Wilson, a junior from Beaumont, Texas, went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two runs driven in for the Stars. Dylan Delso, a junior from Broken Arrow, Okla., went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.
In the second game, OCU erased 1-0, 2-1 and 4-3 deficits. Bissell knocked in a run on a single to left to create a 3-2 OCU fifth-inning lead.
In the sixth, Lytle scored on Delso's infield single to tie the game 4-4. Jared Baker put the Stars on top for good by scoring on a passed ball. Delso added a two-run homer in the seventh.
Delso went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Bissell was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Wilson went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Wright was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs for OCU.
Grant Hamilton picked up the win by working the fifth and sixth innings. Hamilton, a junior righty from Oklahoma City, improved to 2-1. Miguel Gonzalez retired SAGU in order in the seventh.   
The Stars meet eighth-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Bartlesville, Okla.
