Stars blank Southwestern Christian 14-0, 8-0

OCU improves to 43-1 on the season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Top ranked Oklahoma City University dominated Southwestern Christian 14-0 and 8-0 Thursday night at Ann Lacy Stadium.
The Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA softball, smashed 24 hits in two games and improved to 43-1, 20-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OCU batted around the lineup and put up nine runs in the in the first inning. The first run came when Cheyanne Terry, a senior from Little Axe, Okla., hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Kyndra Holasek.
Later in the inning, Laci Joyner, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., singled to right center and scored Jocelin Diaz to give the Stars a 2-0 lead.
The Stars scored their last run of the first on a single to left field from Kylee Rounsaville, a senior from Mustang, Okla., that brought in Terry.
Diaz, a senior from Maracay, Venezuela, clobbered her 10th home run of the season down the left field line that scored Terry. The home run scored gave the Stars a 13-0 run.
Diaz went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored, while Joyner struck a perfect 3-for-3, scored two runs and drove in two.
Maria Gomez, a senior from Yaraguy, Venezuela, remained a perfect 17-0 on five scoreless innings and allowed only one hit while she struck out six.
OCU's Holasek, a junior from Mustang, Okla., started the second game off with a home run to left field.
Carissa Turang, a senior from Whittier Calif., singles to shortstop that scored McRae Cayton in the second. Later in the second, Terry singled to center field and drove in Madison Ellis.
Holasek smacked her 11th homer of the year over the right field fence that brought home Turang and Ellis.
In the sixth, Jeananne Ruck, a junior from San Luis Obispo, Calif., hit a sacrifice to left that scored Shelbi Legg. Rounsaville ended the game on the single to the left side that brought in Emily Krienke.
Abby Meador, a freshman from Midwest City, Okla., pitched five scoreless innings, allowed three hits and struck out nine while improving to 16-1 on the year.
The Stars travel to USAO for a doubleheader starting 1 p.m. Saturday in Chickasha, Okla.
