OCU tops Texas Wesleyan 5-2, 10-2

The Stars wrap up the Texas road trip with four wins

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Oklahoma City University controlled Texas Wesleyan 5-2 and 10-2 Wednesday at Lady Lion Field
Carissa Turang went a perfect 4-for-4 on the day with four RBIs and three runs scored. OCU, ranked No. 1 in NAIA softball, improved to 41-1, 18-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
The Stars scored their first runs on a single up for middle from Turang, a senior from Whittier, Calif., in the second inning. Turang drove in Amanda Ingram and Laci Joyner on the single.
OCU tacked on another run in fourth when Cheyanne Terry, a senior from Little Axe, Okla., hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Madison Ellis to extend the lead to 3-0 in favor of the Stars.
Turang struck again in the sixth with a middle up the middle that knocked in Ellis and McRae Cayton that gave OCU a 5-1 lead.
Turang went 2-for-2 and drove in four of the five runs for the Stars.
Maria Gomez, a senior from Yaracuy, Venezuela improved to 15-0 on 5.1 innings of work, allowed five hits and two runs. Abby Meador, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., shut the door with two hits and struck out three in 1.2 innings pitched.
In the later game, the Stars had two runners cross home plate in the first inning. First, Jame Rateliff, a senior from Mustang Okla., hit a sacrifice fly to left field that brought home Terry. Later, Joyner singled up the middle and scored Kylee Rounsaville.
OCU tacked on two more runs in the second inning. Jocelin Diaz, sacrificed to center and drove in Turang. Kyndra Holasek, a senior from Mustang, Okla., stole home to cap the inning and give the Stars a 4-2 lead.
In the fourth, Diaz singled to right field and scored Turang again. Rounsaville, a senior from Mustang, Okla., then singled to center field to score Terry. The Stars later added four insurance runs in the fifth.
Meador threw four inning and allowed two runs on five hits and struck out two to improve to 15-1. Gomez closed the game on one inning and did not allow a hit or run.
The Stars host SAC rival Southwestern Christian in a double header starting at 5 p.m. Thursday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
