Stars smash SAGU 16-2, 14-0

OCU remains undefeated in SAC

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University dominated Southwestern Assemblies of God 16-2 and 14-0 on Tuesday at the SAGU field.
The Stars scored at least one run in nine of the 10 innings played. OCU, ranked No. 1 in NAIA softball, improved to 39-1, 16-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Kyndra Holasek, a junior from Mustang, Okla., started the day off with a solo home run to right field.
In the second inning, Carissa Turang, a senior from Whittier, Calif., doubled to left center that drove in Madison Ellis, McRae Cayton and Laci Joyner to give the Stars a 4-0 lead.
OCU added five runs in the third and fourth innings each to put the game out of reach at 14-0.
In the fifth, and last inning, Kayley Humann, a junior from Edmond, Okla., blasted a two run home run that brought in Emily Krienke.
Cayton, a junior form Irvine, Calif., went 3-for-3, scored three runs and drove in two, while Ellis, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., went 2-for-3, scored three runs with two RBIs.
Maria Gomez, a senior from Yaracuy, Venezuela, threw the complete game and gave two runs, three hits and struck out three to improve to 15-0 on the season.
Holasek smashed her ninth home run of the season and second of the day in the second inning of the second game. The dinger scored Turang and put the Stars up 5-0.
Later in the inning, Jamie Rateliff, a senior from Mustang, Okla., singled down the left field line that drove in Kylee Rounsaville and Jocelin Diaz. OCU took an 8-0 lead after the second inning.
Laci Joyner, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., connected on her third home run of the year to left field that drove in Jeananne Ruck.
Joyner went 3-for-4, scored three runs and drove in three more, while Rounsaville also went 3-for-4, scored two runs and one RBI.
Meador, a freshman from Midwest City, Okla., threw a scoreless complete game, allowed three hits and struck out four to improve to 15-1.
The Stars take on Texas Wesleyan in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Waxahachie, Texas.
