Stars sweep Texas Wesleyan 11-5, 9-4

OCU remains undefeated in SAC play

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University controlled Texas Wesleyan 11-5 and 9-4 Saturday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
OCU clobbered 21 hits in two games. The Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA softball, improved to 37-1, 14-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Oklahoma City's Cheyanne Terry, a senior from Little Axe, Okla., jacked a home run over the left center fence on the second Stars' batter of the game.
OCU piled on six runs in the second inning. Madison Ellis, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., drove a ball deep to center field that hit off the outfielders glove. Ellis drove in Laci Joyner and Jamie Rateliff.
Kyndra Holasek, a junior from Mustang, Okla., then singled down the left field line that drove in Carissa Turang and Ellis.
Terry added her fifth home run of the season over the center field fence that scored Holasek and extended the Stars lead to 7-0.
OCU added another run in the fifth on a sacrifice bunt from McRae Cayton that drove in Laci Joyner.
The Stars produced three runs in the sixth to cap the scoring. Jocelin Diaz, a senior from Maracay, Venezuela, doubled to left field that scored Holasek and Turang. Kylee Rounsaville, a senior from Mustang, Okla., doubled down the left field line that brought in Diaz.
Terry went 2-for-3, scored two runs and drove in three runs, while Holasek went 2-for-4, scored two runs and two RBIs.
Maria Gomez, a senior from Yaracuy, Venezuela, improved to 14-0 on the season and threw a complete game allowing eight hits and five runs.
In the finale, The Stars jumped on top in the first inning when Rateliff, a senior from Mustang, Okla., drove in Diaz and Terry with a single to the right side of the infield.
Rateliff added another run in the third when she doubled to left field that scored Diaz. Later in the third, Joyner, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., doubled to left center that broguth in Rateliff.
The Stars added four runs in the fourth inning. Holasek started things off when she hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Ellis. Then Terry singled up the middle that drove in Amanda Ingram. Later in the innings, Diaz knocked her ninth home run of the season over the wall in left center that scored Terry.
Rateliff rounded things off in the sixth with a single up the middle that added Diaz. Rateliff went 4-for-4 with a run scored and four RBIs in the second game, while Diaz went 2-for-2 and two walks with four runs and drove in two.
Abby Meador, a freshman form Midwest City Okla., improved to 14-1 in five innings of work allowing three hits, one run and struck out eight.
The Stars continue SAC play against Texas Wesleyan with doubleheaders starting a 5 p.m. in Fort Worth, Texas.
