OCU moves into SAC Tournament title game with 82-63 win

Stars take their title shot 1 p.m. Saturday against Oklahoma Baptist

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University surged into the Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament championship game with an 82-63 victory over Southwestern Christian on Friday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Yvonte Neal, a senior from Spring Valley, Calif., boosted OCU (23-2) with 24 points and seven rebounds. The Stars, ranked second in NAIA Division I, meet sixth-ranked Oklahoma Baptist (25-4) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena for the tournament title.
OCU will seek to gain its 10th SAC Tournament crown and first since 2012. Oklahoma City squared off with Oklahoma Baptist in three consecutive conference tournament championship games from 2008-10. The Stars prevailed each time.
Oklahoma Baptist will look to defend its 2014 tournament title. The Lady Bison knocked off John Brown (Ark.) 60-57 on March 8, 2014 to take their first SAC Tournament championship.
The two teams have split their four previous meetings. This season, OCU won 86-78 on Jan. 17 at home before OBU took the second meeting 66-62 on Feb. 14 in Shawnee, Okla.
Rateska Brown, a senior from Alvin, S.C., collected 15 points, five rebounds and two steals, while Ouleymatou Coulibaly, a senior from Bamako, Mali, West Africa, had 11 points, four rebounds and two assists for the Stars.
Marisha Wallace, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds as Oklahoma City racked up a 56-29 rebounding advantage. OCU's Janay Borum, a senior from Upper Marlboro, Md., stuffed the stat sheet with seven points, eight rebounds, 11 assists and two steals.
Southwestern Christian made up a 14-point deficit as Maranda Janz nailed a 3-pointer for a 44-43 edge with 14:17 to go.
Neal scored on back-to-back lay-ins to put OCU back in front 47-44 at the 13:14 mark. The Stars mustered a 12-2 onslaught to take command 59-48. At the 8:31 mark, Cara Neighbors sank a 3-pointer off Brown's feed to cap the OCU run.
